SACE Exchange
Visitor Program - USA |
|
American School Life and Family Life Together !!
The Exchange
Visitor Program is based on the Bureau of Educational
and Cultural Affairs. The program is sponsored by USIA.
The purpose of SACE Exchange Visitor Program-USA is to promote understanding
between the people of the United States and the people of other countries
through educational and cultural exchanges. Foreign students (under the J-1 visa)
are invited to attend American public or private high schools for a semester or
for a full school year. The SACE Exchange Visitor Program-USA provides students
the opportunity to study with American students.
Students who participate in the Exchange Visitor Program live with American host
families who voluntarily invite a Korean student into their home as part of their
own family. American families in the United States desire to learn more about
other cultures. By volunteering to be a host family, the American family also
gains more knowledge about the world around them.
The local coordinator seeks to find upstanding American families to act as
host families. The local coordinator visits the family, observes the living
arrangements, and checks out the surrounding neighborhood to ensure Korean
students are placed in a safe and caring environment. The host families are
very carefully selected because the American family has considerable responsibilities
placed upon them when students come from.
Students are able to improve their English skills by living with an American host
family and attending an American high school. This experience gives the Korean student
a competitive edge in today¡¯s international market.
